Hello all
New to the forum
After some help. Handle bar bolt has been removed. Is there an easy way to replace it without removing the handle bars??

Correct the handle bar wedge is still in the stem but dropped I suppose....Ive tried turning the grifter over and then trying to screw it back in can feel it there....I think.... but cant quite get the thread to catch is it just a case of keeping on trying or better to remove handle bars.
Thanks for the offer of the bolt much appreciated.
As for the bike Ive had it from new bought as a pressie when I was a kid Dad was going to car boot it but couldnt have that

you could try tapping the wedge out, then trying to get the bars out? most bikes we have done have took hours t get the bars out with alot of hassle, steve had the same problem and bent his forks, not sure bout the bars but i would carry on trying to screw in the thread, its easier

if your gonna remove the bars undo the head nut as well due to their being a ball bearing in there to stop the bars coming out of the steerer tube

ok people , the way i read it it sounds like you need to keep the wedge steady while you re thread the stem bolt , if you get yourself down to a pound shop buy a magnetic pexpanding pen , turn the bike onto its back wheel , and insert the pen into the bottom of the forks to grab the wedge , then once it is steady , advance it until it reaches the right area , and then try threading the bolt back into it .
Hope this is of use and makes sense

Will have to look at details for brooklands meet. Sounds like a good soak it will be unless i manage to rescrew on tonight....dont hold out much hope. If I do have to take bars off I take it the wedge will just be sat there laughing at me

yeah the wedge should just come out if you do get the bars out. (if you listen carefully when trying to remove the bars you will probably be able to hear the wedge shouting abusive names, lol)

SUCCESS smile/hapface01.gif  smile/hapface01.gif . Thought I'd start with handlebar removal and after 5 minutes of twisting and pulling off they came to reveal the spacer. What a relief. Did notice the ball bearing thats supposed to be behind head nut wasnt there, do these come up for sale on ebay ever????

Anyone got any idea what size the ball bearing is that's located behind the headnut and stops the handlebars from being lifted too high. Exact size if possible. Cheers
