to remove rust from chrome,

items needed;

wire wool
WD-40
old rag

step 1:

spray the surface with the rust on about 20mins before you attempt to remove the rust, also spray the wire wool that will be used for cleaning

step 2:
rub the rusty surface with the wire wool, if it is only surface rust it will be removed by the wire wool, if its more serious rust, it will probably need re-dhroming

step 3:
wipe it over with the old cloth and wa-la

extra care: if you want to give the chrome extra protection, wax it!

the wire wool shoud be 0000 grade, I use it with washing up liquid and the chrome comes up great, though as stated if it's heavly pitted will need rechrome. You can do this on paint too. I did the whole of my '65 vw truck with 0000 wire wool where the rust had bled and it came up great!!!

I've been quoted between £50.00 and £70.00 to rechrome one wheel (incidentally, the same as a much larger motorcycle rim....) Can anyone recommend a more reasonable Chrome Plater?

I used Aquachrome in Preston. Had to persuade them to do them as they only usually do small items. cost me  £25 per rim
