An easy how to “bleach bmx mag wheels”

1. remove hubs/bearings/axles.
2. give your wheels a good cleaning with hot soapy water before bleaching.
3. get yourself a good quantity of the cheapest nastiest bleach you can find. i.e. between 8-12 bottles preferably.
4. find yourself a big enough container that will fit your wheels in, and so that your wheels will be totally submerged once in the mixture of bleach and water.
5. empty all the bottles of bleach into your container, mix with a few pints of water first of all, give it a good stir.
6. place your wheels in the mixture of bleach and water, then fill up with water until both wheels are totally submerged.
7. leave wheels for a few days, and keep stirring the contents of the container once or twice a day.

In my experience of bleaching white mag wheels, I have left the wheels in bleach for a few days, then, I have taken them out, rinsed them off with a hose pipe, and then gave them another good scrub with hot soapy water. Then replaced them back into the mixture of  bleach and water. I repeated this process numerous times, as the wheels I have experienced, have all been in a really bad state, so needs were a must! However, if your wheels are NOS (david h), then the bleaching process shouldn’t take as long. If you are bleaching NOS wheels, then I guess it’s all about keeping an eye on them, to see when you are satisfied with the whiteness.
All in all, my mags were in the bleach for a total of two weeks, maybe longer! It might sound like a lengthy process, but with the results I achieved, it was well worth it!

With all chemicals, there are WARNINGS. With the bleach being in one container, the concentration levels are very high, so please take note of the list of things you should take as standard precautions.

1. try not to splash any of the contents on to your skin, it DOES burn, believe me, I’ve done it!
2. be careful of how long you are around the container, if your container is inside a garage/shed etc, the fumes can burn your eys, skin and your throat.
3. keep young children and pets away from the bleach.
4. last but not least, DON’T DRINK IT!!!

Hopefully this will be of help to you, I don’t think I have missed anything out!
Let me know if you don’t understand anything
