This is the last piece to take of my dismantled Grifter, how the heck do I get the stand off?

not as bad as it looks removing the stand, as for the fork thimbles you'll need something thin like a hacksaw blade to get down the sides of it to prise them out.

I was trying with a stanly knife but had no luck, then realised it was 1am and I would actually need some sleep!  I will try your reccomendation.

it's a piece of p*ss to make a stand removal tool

this is one welded to a g clamp see above link but i made one from an old end off some motocross handlebars it was the right diameter and chopped a piece out like on the other link above .... it's a doddle ... and you can polish or chrome yer stand he he ......

i use a tiny precision screwdriver and tap gently until they are free , bit of a nightmare job to not damage too much though
