I've been in my dad's shed today and he did indeed have a grifter and a few spare bits in there.

Frame number is NH9411443 which suggests Mk2 grifter.

Also a spare frame NP9420018 Red (flat red) might have been repainted

But it is Orange (flat orange), can't find refernce to that colour on the forum.  It definately doesn't look like it's been resprayed either.

Aint a particularly tidy bike but I'll try and prose it off him and see if I can offer it to you good people.

red = stars and stripes Mk2

orange = agent oranges custom grifter (never a proper model)

you say it does'nt look to have been repainted, the red mk2's can fade over time to a suprisingly orange colour.

As you can see it's quite Orange and has all the decals etc.  It doesn't look faded at all as it's quite even in colour even under the dirty bits.  He has another frame and bits too and that was very definitely RED by comparison but the same age according to the frame numbers.

yep, i would have to agree!! plenty of polish would bring it to a darker, lustre red (try a bit of MER)

P.S also the original untouched black forks, points to this being original paint job!

seems very orange to me but I guess you guys are the experts

just tyo let you know, this bike has the wrong seat, pedals and tyres

I guessed the tyres were wrong and the pedals looked a bit suspect compared to the Mk1 I had but am no Grifter expert.

Thought I'd 'investigate' my dad's shed and take some piccies to share with everybody.

Also the spare HUB has a 81 3 stamp on it that doesn't match either frame

I have two red stars and stripes and they are completely different shades of red , as described , my original is more a tomato soup red where as the semi custom is a deeper red ...bizarre

i'm pretty sure the red mk2's are prone to fading, normally you would be able to see the original colour by removing the forks and looking at the steerer tube, but not with these as the forks are black, doh !

same with cars, red is always the first to fade

yeah just been thinking about an old red/pink sierra i had some years ago !
