we have an XL and the frame number indicates that it was built in JAN 1980

I always thought these were the next model after the super grifter which was 1982/3??

am i right or wrong

Dates: Jan 1981 (approx) until (approx) May 1983
Frame No: NA1 – NG3
Colours: Black (Red Mudguards)(solid)

wood5tocks info says that they were started being built in JAN 81??

Two thoughts.

1. I'm wrong, which is entirely possible due to having a very small brain, and I don't have cast iron proof apart from frame numbers I have collected and brochure scans from 82 onwards.

2. The Xl has the same fram as the MK2 (I think) so it may have been a frame made in 1980 but not built up and sold until 81

I am constantly on the hunt for Raleigh brochers etc from 1976 onwards but have had no luck as yet

the rear wheel date says  JAN 81 so it could be an old frame threw up the corner then built up in 81 as a prototype XL???

phew I thought it was my very small brain    

can anyone spot anything differant on this grifter than another XL

i can see the spoke guard

and the rear tyre is a supergrip

oh yeah we noticed that too, could be a newer back wheel though, bought with a new tyre

i've now got new old stock tyres for this bike soon to be fitted.
