This is found on the rear of the seat tube at the bottom facing the rear mud guard.

The date stamp can ce found either across the hub or around it depending on the year.

The dates should be almost exact as Sturmey archer had an production line at the Raleigh factory thus the frames and hubs were made vitualy at the same time

You had it on ebay a while back and were kind enough to give me some pictures

also you should check your hub date against the date you get off the frame number, this will tell if you wheels have ever been changed etc

i have just checked my new super and it was built in oct 82 with a hub date of nov 82 so the wheels are also original

just looked on my grifter the number lines up with february of well.... i duno the date on here says 1983 but february falls after 1984 the feb of 1984 does this mean mine is a mk2?  sturmey archer hub is 76-12 1976 - december right is this correct or are these wheels wrong for the frame??

put up your frame number, that'd be easiest way.

if its an 84 frame then deffo a mk2 as thats when they finished production and the classic became legend

my grifs year is unkown to me can u help the frame No is
nn6114993,it was dressed as a mk 2 but not sure now..

its oct 76 kev. Does it have the extra bracket at the back to fix the rear mudguard?
It must of been repainted as a mk2.

both my hub and frame say may 82 so all good
