Having just been given my brothers old Grifter i am looking at a touch of customising for my youngest lad.

the starting point for me has to be the wheels. As a complete numpty what are my options? The standard ones are rusted and pitted beyong a state of rechroming.

I do like the mag wheels as they seem to be a bit more of a long term low maintenance option.

What options are available for me?

Many Thanks for your time.

In all honesty, so long as the wheels are 20 inch diameter and you can get a 3 speed in the rear wheel, you actually have a lot of options, unlss you want to go the single sped route........

Either way, i offer one word of advice and that is to try and stick to the standard tyre width of 2 1/8 inches (2.125 inch). i tried 20 x 2.175 wheels with matching tyres on the custom super i built, but it felt unstable until i put 20 x 2.125 tyres on, then decided to refit the original wheels and tyres.

Hi Jam

Welcome to the forum. If you go down the mag wheel route. Raleigh Vektar wheels have a 3 spd hub in the rear wheel and can be connected up to the existing cable. Have a look in customs section at some of the forum members wheel options.

Well the Vektar wheels look like they may be a bit of a rarity from my quicl searches.

I think maybe the non geared route may be easier for my. I do like the Skyway Tuf 11 and at £70 a set (ebay) they seem reasonably priced.

Other than tyres and tubes what else would i need to sort this conversion?

Thanks again
