I am in the middle of restoring a 1979 MKII Grifter, and have hit a stumbling block due to the poor condition of the wheels. I have been told by 2 different chrome platers that the wheels are beyond economical repair, and the result of any repair/ re-plate would be questionable. My next option would be to shot blast and powder coat, which is still an option. However, whilst trawling ebay, under the chopper section (Useful cross over bits to be found) I started to think would the latest incarnation of Chopper rear wheels be suitable for the Grifter? I am talking just the hoop/rims not the hubs. If they are, dould you use a stripped rear for the front wheel? Any body else explored this possibility??

The rims are exactly the same for front and back. So you could use a mk2 chopper rim for a grifter. You could also use the rear hub off a chopper if the dates right.

The MK3 chupper wheels aren't chromed steel like the Grifter mate
