plenty of wd40 soaked overnight, nut on 3/4 of the thread ( so thread not exposed ) metal plate over the thread and lots of hits, stuck on good , thread is starting to damage on one side, so new pins needed,

frustrating little job

The worse case is you have to drill them out mate but its better if you can get someone to help you. Its a tricky little job and easy to damage the pedal arms. Just make sure you keep the drill straight.

I punch a hole first in the centre of the pin then start off with a small dill bit and work my way up till the bit is a few mm smaller than the pin. Once its hollowed out you will be able to wack it through. I use lots of wd40 while im drilling of any other substance even lard is good.

Good luck mate.

P.s if your chainguard is good and complete i would knock the rivets off and remove it as ive damaged loads of guards trying to remove the cotterpins

Before drilling mate try putting a socket thats wider than the pin over the non-thread end and putting the whole thing in a vice (you'll need a mate to help hold it level though). Slowly do the vice up, and as long as its level and the pin is not already bent then it shouldn't bend as you tighten up, the times ive done this its always worked, all of a sudden it will go

hmm not going good, stripped rest of bike in 15 mins, all i have now is messed up chain wheel and semi drilled cotter pin,

believe it or not forks came out easy, only thing left is one cotter pin, chain wheel and axle, will recommence drilling tomorrow night, looks like new chain wheel needed as sure cotter pin has welded itself to it

Saw off the bottom bracket, chuck that and the chainguard in the bin and get new ones (ive been in this position twice and this is the quick way out!)

I would soak it in wd40 once more and keep tapping away (try to fold the metal in if youve hollowed the middle of the pin out) Have you hit the pedal arms denting them in? If so then marks suggestion maybe your only option. Its not hard to get hold of replacment parts i have some i will sell you if you need them mate. Give it one more go but wear thick gloves then you wont be afraid to give the pins a dam good wack!!! Good luck mate.

the lowdown, this must be a grifter baptism

drilled right through the cotter pin, left like an outer skin inside the pedal arm, few taps with small screw driver and it fell through, couple of whacks and chain wheel came off

started to prep frame,

cheers guys
