I'd squirt some oil in there, then make an offering of your first born to the Sturmey Archer spirits (y'know the ones inside you hub that make all the gearings work!)

I'm still in the dark as to how these hubs work - I swear it's done with smoke and mirrors!

Don't forget to come along to the Brooklands Meet, 5th May 2008.

There quite simple really, I re-build them all the time when i'm restoring Grifters, They always seem to get overlooked and as i have an abundance of Sturmey archer spares i just think "what the heck" and strip them down and replace anything i think looks worn. The smoke and mirrors are the most difficult parts to put back though!

How do you get the little cap on quickly?
All my smoke escapes before i can close the lid.

Ha ha, Thats the tricky part. you have to put the toggle chain in and select second gear, that closes the smoke valve. ) It's in the Sturmey archer technical manual, aint you got one???Just be careful that you don't crack the mirror otherwise you get seven gears bad luck. (ooh that was bad, i just couldn't stop myself! I'm off now to slap myself silly for writing bad jokes
