I had Raleigh Wildcat forks on my custom grifter   there similar to Vektar forks.
I had Raleigh Max forks on it.  But my frame is modded at headstock.  So is shorter than a normal grifter.
Ive got a new suspension fork that has a longish steerer tube.  Going to try that.

Normal forks on modern bikes have a shorter headstock.  Its actually better if the headstock is longer   gives the steering bearings an easier time.
Plus most people want the bars up high.

BMXs that have a Gyro on the headset.  They have slightly longer forks.  Probably not long enough.
Plus its likely that the stem would be a 21.1mm shaft.  So you couldnt use the bar stem from a normal Grifter.  Have to use a BMX stem and XL bars...or normal BMX bars.

The forks have to have a 1" steerer tube.  1 1/8" steerers wont fit.

the raleigh shopper, from the same era as the grifters, i doubt you'd get a set of shopper forks to fit due to the reasons i gave earlier. also never really see shopper parts for sale just whole bikes.

oh   are you trying to buy old shopper bike bits

I get them from Cosmic supply

I E   I get given them

Also it doesnt have to be a Raleigh Shopper.
I fitted forks from a different folder onto my Raleigh Denim    fake chopper bike.
They had a dyno mount on.

Hi I'm trying to do a similar thing, to use BMX forks.  I found some for sale with a 131mm steerer length including 43mm threaded section.  Will this be long enough to fit the Grifter?

Cheers

i fitted some bmx forks on my kustom - think the steerer tube was longer than 131mm - could have been something like 170mm   smile/eek.gif but its quite possible i'm mistaken

i took my old forks down the local bike shop, luckily one of the blokes in there was a bit of an old school guru and ordered some suitable ones in for me!  the younger lads weren't quite as knowledgable though...

here's a link to their website in case you exhaust all other possibilities  http://www.onyerbike.co.uk/

Thanks,

I just found some BMX forks with an 8" steerer on ebay.  They're being shipped form the US and hopefully they'll work!
