Heres a pic of a Raleigh Dirtcross that I used to have.  Its similar to a Grifter.  That one had 24" wheels and cantiler brakes.

I bidded on a couple of bikes at the Police auction in town.  I won a Dirt cross, for £10.  Its on 20 inch wheels with caliper brakes.  I was going to pick it up yesterday but had to work late.

Heres the 24" wheeled Dirtcross with my other Grifter a couple of years ago.

That's pretty cool, I swear I saw a kid on one of these on Monday -  I recognise the handlebars and forks!
How much are they worth do you think? Worth making the guy an offer?

BTW, the grifter looks ace with those handles too.

My brothers going to take me to the auction to pick the Dirtcross up, later.  I dont have a car.

Thats Raleigh Burner bars with the brace cut off, on my Grifter. Theyre in a Kalloy cast alloy MTB stem with a steel shaft.  It has cut down Peugeot MTB forks on it then.  But they were bent, so I chucked them.  I had a Strika or similar rear mudguard on it.  Going to fit a pair of them on it when I get round to it.  Probably put a set on the DirtCross too.

I got the DirtCross. It cost £11.18

Its in bad condition.  The shifters broken, mangled back brake, seat clamp, cables. Different back wheel with a dent in it.
Gonna put a proper Raleigh wheel on it and fix the brakes

Oh nearly got told off bye the plod smile/hapface01.gif
Was biking up past my garden on the pavement.  And a copper walked round the corner.  Never see the cops in my village.

Was thinking of changing the pedals on the dirt cross.  Got some DX style bmx pedals, in silver or black.  Think the silver ones will go good on it.
Also the stems right down in the fork steerer now. But the forks are so goddamn long, the bars are too high.  So I was thinking of doing with out a stem  Drill the fork crown for bar clamps.  Got some that have 2 long bolts in them, that go through the crown.  Or Ive got Dirt bike mini moto ones that have one bolt that goes through the crown, per clamp.  These would be easier to line up the holes.  My engineering work is sometimes less than good, like Jasper Carrots DIY man  I also have a few of those SR bmx stems as used on Burners.  Think they are a bit lower.

Ive got a new 8 speed wheel at my work.  Was thinking of asking my boss if I could have the hub and spokes so I could build it into a 20" rim.  The 700c rim its on is badly machined so they got a new wheel from Raleigh for it.  I could cut the spokes down and rethread them in my spoke threading machine.

Yeah it feels high at the front.  Thinking of taking the stem off and drilling the top yoke for motorbike style bar clamps to get the bars lower.  If they'll fit though.

The bikes in near standard condition just now.  May build a cassette wheel and fit 2.3inch tyres on it. With alloy brakes and pedals.  Want it to be a good woods bike.  For hairing through the trees.

or to make life simpler i think the max width on a tyre that can be fited to a standard wheel is either 2.125 or 2.225    not sure which

Hey this has alloy rims.  There thinner than Grifter rims

I want a cassette hub so I can get more gears, higher ratio.

Theres a Saracen Hoax at my work.  Its got Kenda 2.3" tyres.  The rims look much the same width as my Dirtcross ones.  Have to measure them.

Yeah its a five speed deraileur bike.

So want a 7 or 8 speed cassette hub laced into a wheel.
Got a spoke threading machine so can make spokes to any length.
Have got a Dyno hub wheel that has spokes that are Zeed.. Theyve bent the hub end of the spoke to a Z shape as the spokes werent a standard length.

Have to get a spoke calculator from the Net to figure out the lengths.

My mum came to the door of my room.  Said someones left 2 bikes at the door.  Nothing strange in that.  Often get old bikes left at my house.

But they were my bikes.  My Dirt Cross was lying against the front door, then there was an Emmelle MTB beside it.
Some unknown so and so, had been in my back yard and moved my bikes about. smile/mad.gif   The Dirt Cross was the most obvious bike.  The Emmelle was 2 bikes behind it.  They'd moved a better MTB to get the Emmelle.

They have stomped on the Dirt Crosses rear wheel.  Think it'll true up though.

GRRRR

I put the bikes further round the back.  Put a big old tree that broke in a storm, on top of them.
