Hi all, as some of you know already i have just bought a super grifter from raleigh mad! arrived on tuesday all very nicely boxed up, i set about rebuilding her straight away! very clean, all i had to do was sort out the coating of brownish stuff on hubs and spokes on both wheels, a good scrubbing sorted that out! i was in such a rush i did not take that many pics of rebuiding but all i can say is that this bike has not seen any use!! i have been told the original pedals were not with the bike when daz bought it but he has supplied a nice clean pair!    the tyres still have bobbles on, the metal work is mint, the brakes look like they have just come out of the box! the raleigh raincheck brake blocks are brand new with just a light black mark on all four! seat post is as brand new! all in all shes a beauty! had a quick ride earlier and you can tell its new, the twist grip has a very prominant click! 2nd and 3rd gear has the loud tick, tick tick.... i had to re-align the cable to the gear chain, i guessed the tension and all 3 gears engaged first time!! this bike likes me!! anyway, enough waffling! have a look for yourselves!

Thanks john,    there is a few scratches here and there (mudguards mostly) but they will vanish with a bit of t cut and polish!! this bike is really nice, the pics dont do it justice! i am chuffed cos i have got a grifter from all the generations now! i like to think of the last of the line supers as being (dare i say it!) a kind of mk3. Different from the rest. so i lined them up in the pic as a tribute to this! mk1 far right then mk2 then the super.... gotta admit they look good together!!

What happened to your Raleigh Winner? did it get evicted??? lol. Cracking work on the Supergrifter GaZ!. I am not a lover over the later Grifters but i have to admit the more i look at your super the more i appreciate it. Its had a very easy life... trouble is which one gets left at home now??? Maybe its time to retire the MK1?. I am painting a batch of MK1 reds soon if your interested in restoring her???                    You can hang her on your front room wall?....(not laura!... The grifter!!!...geesh)

Yes, your'e right mikey it is nice.....   i am very happy that i saved this beauty! last of the line grifters... sad, as you will all agree, but quite a nice way to end, keeping with the theme of the age at the time....
The winner is still with me john! i started work by spraying the forks last summer but not got round to finishing the old gal, the future of this bike is undecided! i have ownded it from new (1984) and it has sentimental value to me but just does not get used anymore!
The mk1 will still get used as laura adopted her a while ago! so it will be just a matter of me deciding which mk2 to take out!!
Thanks for the offer but not only could i not afford for you to respray the mk1 laura wont let me as she prefers the "battle scars" look of the bike! besides the wheels are that badly pitted they would need to be stripped and re-chromed too...... nice thought but unfortunately is never going to happen . laura laughed when she just read your last comment!!

Well GaZ... I wasnt going to charge you... I was going to do it as a wedding present from me... Your MK1 would come back to you in fresh paint and new waterslide decals. Send the Handlebars and Mudguards along too and i will do them also. Then all you would have to do is the restoration of the other parts. The wheels are the expense, but £20-30per rim is worth it in the end. I am sure other members would help out with sourcing parts?

regards John
