Nice bike big bulli. I got to get myself a burner. Prices are going silly now. I saw a very ratty one at a car boot sale last week and he wanted £60 for it, told him he could keep it. |

lol you wait 22 years for another rebel then loads turns up..lol just like buses,,,,the rebel is actually one of the rarest of raleighs bmx's as they were a mk1 burner with the gusset removed and were built up in late aug early 85 and were generally sold only via kays catalogue and similar mail order companies they were sold from the spring summer 1985 catalogues and were generally delivered around may 1985,retail on them was £99.99 as far as i can tell the rebel was made in small numbers a few 100 tops after all the mk1 burner was old hat and the mk2 in 85 was the one to have, the rebel is my fave bmx ever and i9 will never ever sell mine.best looking bmx too ( iam biased)

Love it! The silver and blue looks lovely. ![]() Any plans to resto it? Hey valeter, don't you have some scans of catalogues you could post here in the Pictures section? ![]() Oh, by the way - I bet I had a slightly rarer Burner than yours*. (I'll dig the pic out in a minute). ![]() * that's not supposed to sound as big-headed as it did!

I didnt know a big company like Raleigh would make a bike for one outlet only.

bear in mind that back in 1985 mail order catalogues like kays, brian mills, grattan, freemans etc were big big business these were the days before easy credit cards and 90 percent of the population shopped this way and bikes were a huge seller this way these companies would sell 1000s of bikes and companies like raleigh, would often do specials for companies ,so it would look like each company was selling something different its good old fashioned marketing, car companies still do it today with special editions coming out which is the same car but with some different mods

Just to say, i was doing some research and came across this site . But i too have a Raleigh Rebel. It was my first proper bike as a kid had it from new. It was bought from a small local bike shop. I am just diggin it out of the Shed at the moment to maybe restore or sale on ebay. i always knew they were rare as never ever saw one the same. I also have a late 1987 Raliegh Styler in white and red which was my younger brothers. It had later bits on it liek the smaller finger brakes and the double cross bar on the handlebars, oh and the newer seats etc with flatted forks and frame. I'm gonna have a look at the condition over the weekend to see whether they are both salvageable. great to see pics of them on here though as it brings back so many memories and accidents. I liek so many other people my age (29) still have the scars on the knees and elbows from when we went out with a pile of bricks and a bit of wood to see how far we can jump. god they were good bikes. |
