Well I just got my Grifter in the post off Ebay.  It's in fairly good nick.  Paint is pretty much perfect on the frame.  Just noticed a dent in the head tube though.  I hope this doesn't effect the forks but we'll just have to wait and see.  Just stripping it down for now:

Hi mate, glad you got your bike at last! bet you was like a kid at christmas when the postman came a knockin! looks like it will clean up well, hows the chrome on the wheels? if the frames anything to go by they are prob good, either way she looks a lot better than my poor old mk2 when i picked her up, i remember driving down the M6 and thinking.... oh god, what have i done!! but after many a long hour polishing and touching up, old gal came up a treat (see below!) and if you look at the pics before and after i am sure it will give you inspiration to get her finished! good luck with yours, you will get your reward when shes finished and you are riding with both pride and joy down the road with a great big grin on your face!!    enjoy!!

Wow that's quite a transformation.

My Wheels are in good condition chrome wise.  Unfortunately the rear wheel has a dent in the rim although it;s still true.  I think I might get a new set anyway - just deciding what way to go with my design first...

Hi cotterpin, sorry mate but the seat on the bike is a replacement MK1, i did try to superglue the old one with poor results, it was too badly damaged, which was a real shame cos the chrome came up quite well, the old gal was treated to a brand new selle royal seat which was very comfy (see pics)but had to go in the end!! the mk1 seat was a bargain at the time (£11) the chrome was very veiny, spent some time painted black before being sanded down (my mate supergrips advice!) past the copper coating down to bare metal to how it looks now!

Easy mistake mate! i'll forgive you!  wish i could have fixed it, because apart from the seat and the tyres and chainguard the whole bike is original (tho i have just replaced the pedals!) keep it original if you can i say! my mk1 is all original apart from cutting the rear mudguard......

Well this is the final thing.  I'm in need of a stars and stripes rear mud guard but it's ridable for now

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k125/weazlepopper/DSC00862.jpg

It's got chrome BMX forks and a mongoose stem.  I kept the mk2 handlebars and cut the stem off and ground them down a bit.

I put some nice shiny NOS dia comp brakes on with some flame grips.  I think they look cool but they wreck your hands.

I kept the original paint work as I quite like the authentic worn out decals feel.

if anyone has a rear mk2 mudguard with some slightly tatty stars and stripes details I'd be very interested to hear from you!
