here's a couple of pictures of my kustom grifter i've been working on for a while.  i have used a few non-grifter parts (forks, tyres, etc.) so am hoping not to offend too many of the purists.  i've also bodged a few bits together, like the rear mudguard on a bit wonky and the crank arms don't match).

its not quite finished, but is now a full working rider having completed a 9 mile testrun today with only a few teething problems (chain needs adjusting).  not sure as yet whether to try and design some kustom decals - may wait for the winter months

Woah! Extreme make-over!

The forks look pretty good on there, and disc brakes?!!! Bet it stops like you've thrown an anchor out.

Would lower the saddle a wee bit though.

Don't forget to come along to the Brooklands Meet, 5th May 2008.

cheers for the feedback guys!  hrz will be pleased to hear i have lowered the saddle a bit(!) riding position is now pretty comfy.  the saddle does look pretty extreme bomberman, (more extreme that it did in the ebay picture!) but isn't too bad - just done a 10 mile jaunt and i can still sit down.  i've got an oldschool 'selle italia turbo' (or something like that) in reserve if it gets too much

the disc brake works pretty smartly - certainly stops quicker than with the classic calipers, haven't tried it in the wet though smile/eek.gif.  had to fit the bmx forks to fit the hub to take the disc etc, the whole dream of disc brake on grifter ended up costing a few quid... still you only live once!

liking the ipod remark valeter!    don't tell anyone but i had my mp3 player on whilst riding this evening - i'm too cheap to buy a porper ipod!

still got a bit more tinkering and fine tuning to do, will aim to post up a "finished" pic at some point

cheers again guys!  did give a bit of thought to a mk1 short rear mudguard gazdon, maybe go for that for the next kustom!

summertime's ticking away for your rebuild alecw35, but know what you mean about sanding

been listening to the radio on my "p3 p4 digital player" as my mp3er seems to be called valeter - trying to keep up with what the cool kids are listening to on zane lowe in the evenings whilst grifting

Had to wait ages for them but got some plain black ones done in the end.

Going on holiday tomorrow so the camera is packed away in the case, will have to show them off when i return.

will send you all a post card thread from the computer room!

HI There,

How did you fit BMX forks to your Grifter?  I was thinking about doing this on my new project but I found an old post that said it involved welding bits and pieces together.  Is there an easier way to do it?

Thanks

alright there weazlepopper - i was lucky enough to get some old school style bmx forks from my local bike shop that slotted straight in!  although the original headset fitted a treat i had to get a new stem as the original xl one i was planning to use wouldn't fit in (it was slightly too wide) i picked up a correct fitting stem at random at the billing bike meet earlier this year

the bike shop i used is http://www.onyerbike.co.uk/ although there was only one bloke there who new what i was on about!  i should add though that he was brilliant - really helpful and built me some new wheels for the kustom and they turned out really smart, he even cleaned up the sturmey hub so that it looked brand new!!

might be worth sending them a friendly email to see if they can help - the main problem i found getting the bmx forks was that the steerer tube bit has to be ultra long to fit a grifter smile/eek.gif

Modern BMXs that have Gyro cable detanglers on them have longer forks.
But you have to get one that has a 1 inch thick steerer tube.
Probably not long enough
I see Fisher Outdoor has bmx forks for £10.
have to see if I can get them through work
