hi all

after doing mk mk2 in tornado red, about to start resto no 2, now this one is in ok condition

have some parts coming from bendycat eleventeen and bomberman ( paul )

from bendycat ( sorry not sure of his real name ) i am awaiting parts to arrive which include blue grip set and brake cable set

which gets me on to my idea, an all blue grifter

to start off this a mk2 stars , bit scabby here and there but not to bad

will not be done as quick as last one as will be doing some of my other projects at same time ,

so what do you think all blue ?

not sure on theme yet, blue grips i think came from super grifter, sure i will be corrected on that, am awaiting parts to come from bendycat and colour will be based around the grips

decals well a bit away from that yet,did mention to you during last resto that i was going to use your decals ( which i did and can recommend ) and next bike i would use johns ? decals ( that lucky bugger with the herbie grifter    )

ideas are needed for theme and maybe john could do me a deal with a set that he does,

so ideas for blue theme would be good ,

A blues brothers themed bike would be excellent (i love the blues brothers film) yes blue grips from the super grifter. Get john to make the decals.

try putting the forks in a vice with some wood each side. Make sure they are right down in the vice, get someone to hold the frame while you twist the bars this normally works a treat (me and john got some bars out the other day like this mate)

be careful not to twist the forks ive done that a few times! Me,bb and bomberman once twisted some forks on a mk1 right round (paul ended up taking the grinder to them!!!)

handlebars will not come out, forks are loose ie move up and down through the frame,

handlebars are stuck in the forks, handlebars are level with the bottom of where the ball bearing should be to stop the handlebars coming out,  ball bearing has fell out, dont think much further to go but i am  done with for today

ideas please guys, dont want to ruin the forks as in good nick so are handlbars

i'd put the forks down onto a soft wood plank then use a rubber mallet and hit the handlebars downwards where the stem bolt is fixed, it may seem odd to hit them further into the forks but this will (hopefully) break the rust pitting thats holding them there and allow you to turn them within the forks

I thought the bars on my mk1 would never move they were stuck just off centre and it bugged me immensely ... Weeks of lube did nothing...then one day whilst standing up and peddling the chain snapped and i went down like a sack of spuds...After picking myself up and checking grifter for damage (none)....I noticed my bars had moved a tiny bit...pain turned into jubilation.. at last they moved and are now loose....In no way am i suggesting a fall to sort bars but........

so what you suggesting mate bigger hammer images/icones/icon10.gif , think what i will try is a bit of wood under the forks and bit of wood on top of handle bar stem and try a few whacks to push stem back in and then turn round and whack out,,  i know its rust holding these in ,  but eventually got to give    ... strange that the last bike came out dead easy and it was the cotter pins that were a mare, other way round this time ...

Vice is best, I knackered all my forks until I discovered a friend had a vice, since then they all come out with no damage! If not go to a local engineering shop and use thier vice! Try to save them!

Cutting the handlebars may not work mike as they are tapered at the end. There still in quite a way. Like every says you will need a vice mate its the only way.
