hi

started off as a silver mk2, frame all scratched , stickers scratched, rusty chrome all round the rims foam on handle bars knacked, seat been eaten by a mouse or something , but mega cheap and something to work on

so far really only  stripped all fairly easy aprt from one cotter pin, which was a nightmare, drilled out, handle bars well wd40 down the stem left over night bit of twisting and brut force and out they came

rims just been wire wooled, certainly not mint but cost wise bit of elbow grease cost me nowt  ;)

frame was stripped with flap wheel, then on went primer, sanded down with wet and dry to flat spot primer, extra coat of primer and then couple of coats of paint, was going to go with original silver but changed mind at last minute, now its vw scirocco tornado red to match my vw , handle bars sanded primed and painted black , forks red

once paint dry will start rebuild, clean bearings, new seat new foam for handle bars, will not be a minter but will be nice and all working, more pics to follow if you want some

let me know

story over

mike

Rivets are best mate. Most car parts shops sell rivets. (take the guard there to test the size you need) First place the rivet inside the hole of the plastic guard and through the chainwheel, then put a little nut over the rivet to fill the hole in the plastic hex nuts. Then place your rivet gun on the nut and squeeze till it pops. Then just remove the nut and do the next one.

Insert rivet as normal, place small nuts on the rivet as picture shows then use rivet gun as normal. Job jobbed

managed to get in an hour tonight

first up, forks on frame, tricky  but easy if you have 3 hands, new grease and bearing top and bottom of head stem,

new grease in bottom bracket all tightened up nice

wheels on

handle bars, litle tip, smother bottom of handlebars in copper slip, use it on my bike bolts to prevent rusting and seizing, got to help next time you get these forks out

all for now

oh seat on ....   some more pics   getting there

For the rear cable just bend the inner cable a little push through the frame till you can see it then use a bit of stiff wire to hook it out! (i use the wire from a clothes peg it works a treat!)
