The plan was that i was going to build a custom from an old xl frame and forks but i have decided that i would bin that idea and i would rebuild another xl from what i have left so the new decals will come in handy , it already has a set of bmx f1 grips in black and red nos , and i have a back wheel so the bike is about 3/4 complete .

Not sure what i will call it as of yet but it will be another bike built back up and restored partially as a survivor so cant be bad    this is project gxl !!!

To be fair i have taken loads of pictures but they are on my phone and as i work shifts , i sometimes dont see my other half for days on end as we miss each other by just a few minutes most of the time , so the photos never get downloaded onto photobucket but when they do LOOK OUT !!!!!

Day one :

Bought the bike in to assess it and was pleased to find that it had , good chrome by and large as well as an xl seat , the frame is not in bad nick either , sadly the brake calipers that i had planned to use for it were too small in so much as the bolt that goes through the forks i think is for a shopper or something similar so i will clean up another set and see how we go , if they dont come up as clean i will just add a new bolt to the clean calipers i have .

Front brake calipers have been sources and fitted
Front mudguard has been cleaned and fitted
Front brake cable attached and functioning

Today i have decided that i am going to leave the bmx wheels on the bike and not go back to the 3 speed , it has black/ red grips on it anyway but i am going to build it back up as a grifter with a difference , it should look ok but if not the 3 speed goes back on so you can call it a semi custom i guess

Iknow you all want photos but i will describe to you what i have done so far :

I started with an old XL frame which was cleaned up to see how it was under all the muck and grease , next the handlebars were lightly abrased to remove surface rust , then i ordered and fitted a set of black and red NOS f1 bmx grips , then i ordered and fitted a set of MX copy 2 finger brake levers in black .

Then i fitted a set of old red bmx wheels along with some tyres that were lying around , the mudguard , front brake caliper was refitted today so she is still a rolling chassis as she has no pedals or chain , there you go thats where i have got to so far , and yes there are piccies to follow at some stage

i have decided that i am going to do the trational grifter back end on the xl , lose the back rack and create a mudguard support that will look cool maybe , the front looks nice

Surely if you have time to keep doing things to your bikes and time to tell us what you have done, then you must have time to post some pictures......

What format are they steve? Are they stuck on you camera?
If you can email them to me, I might be able to sort them out?

Don't forget to come along to the Brooklands Meet, 5th May 2008.

AAAND STOP

I have again looked at gxl and have decided to go back the other way and have a semi custom , she will keep the bmx wheels and the bmx grips but will be stock other than that , the back rack goes back on and the bike get lots of shinies , she might get a set of redlines , not sure yet but she is taking up valuable room doing nothing and that is no longer an option in my shed .
