My grifter. Had it just over a month and paid £20 for it.

The good bits: it's a grifter! The gears work really well. Good seat. The hub date is 77 6
The bad bits: It's well used. Chain guard has bit's missing. Some scratches on the frame and light rust. Chunks out of the handle bar pad. Rear mudguard has a chunk missing where it made motorbike noises! Rear tyre is a supergrip but has huge bald spot and cracks in the side walls. Front tyre is a super MX. Pedals are crappy white things and the left crank(?) arm is slightly bent. Grips are knackered.

It would cost loads to get NOS parts and restore it so I will probably just make it useable and ride it.
I am considering putting the new chopper style twist grip on and getting some nice chunky tyres and pedals with grip!

hub dates to June 1977.

Should tie in within =/- 2 months of frame date.

Any Raleigh Grifter questions that you need answering, just ask the Grifter Guru.

Awesome!
Clean it - then ride it!

Looks as though it's in better nick than mine though, and I'm planning a full re-build (custom though, not restoration).
As long as you have fun with it and spread the Grifter word, that's all that matters.

Don't forget to come along to the Brooklands Meet, 5th May 2008.

We went out last weekend on the grifters and did about 10 miles. As it was in woods and around a lake it is now even dirtier but i got some pedals with grip!
Quite a few people say hello and chat when they see the grifters.
