Seems like a fairly early one..?  Don't know much about them other than we couldn't afford one when I was a kid.

What is the earliest Grifter..?

Yours is a march 77 woka so will have the extra rear bracket for the rear mudguard (i have a march 77 frame and forks in the loft!)

Yes may 76 is the earliest grifter, thats when raleigh first produced the pre production models with skinny handlebar foam and super mx tyres. They are quite rare and not many on the forum.

Oh Yes. May 76 is when Raleigh produced the "Common as Muck" limited run samples to display in the Raleigh shops to generate interest whilst the main production was underway.   Some here are referring to these bikes as "Pre production" Unfortunately this term in my opinion is incorrect as a "Pre production" refers to a unique rare and one of a kind prototype proving the production process!!! (I think we need to gather serial numbers of all the known "SAMPLE BIKES" and award the earliest serial number the title "Pre Production"!  I'm Game!
