Hello to everyone. I bought this 1979 MKII on Sunday. I have since striped it down to component parts, and have started to source replacemnet parts where needed.
Yesterday I took the wheels to a couple of electroplaters to get quotes for re-chroming. Unfortunately both said due to the amount of pitting they wouldn't be able to get a decent result   So now I am trying to find some replacemnets. Any ideas?? All help much appreciated.

Martin.

thats a nice bike and will clean up well. Is the chrome on the wheels just dull? would they polish up? Lewi did an excellent job on his wheels and they were all dull with pitting on.

Are you going to repaint it and get some proper decals?

Hi,
Yes I plan to do a complete refurbishment, paint included MKI red. I have already striped it (Just the stand and a stubborn coter pin to go!) I am looking to convert it to a MKI, as this is the type I had whenI was about 10-11.
TBH the wheels are quite bad.Someone has had a goat painting them, but the pitting is really bad, and like I said two different chrome platers have said the end result wouldn't be worth the time and expenditure. I'm on the look out for some MKI Decals, and have messaged someone on here, but no reply as yet, also watching some that have just come up on e bay.
So far I have sourced replacement Pedals NOS, Fork Thimbles, Just in case I damage on removal, which knowing me is highly likely! Heron's head badge for front head stock, Brake cables NOS, and Brakes..The saddle and bars are A1, I still need the chain guard, again watching one on e bay, and now the wheels Fingers Crossed...

If your going to turn it into a mk1 then your going to need mk1 forks, handlebars and seat (it you want it to look right)

I have some mk1 decal sets for sale £10 posted or if you want waterslide ones then canopusxs235 has some for sale.

The red paint is a 2 paint system with candy over gold (hard to get right but when you do it looks the biz)

Im looking forward to seeing your progress mate.

Thanks Lads for your comments. What is the difference between the MKi and MKII handle bars, and seat?? In my ignorance I thought it was just the Rear mud guard, paint and decals that differed.
Speaking of which, I could do with a set of those MKI decals. Could you give me your details, and I'll send of payment. Cheers.

Update on the project, I have sourced Repacement grips, cables front and rear NOS. Pastic Chain guard(Suvivour), gear chain plastic protector, brake calipers front and rear,Pedals, and Herons Head badge for the front. The frame is completely stripped, and going to be shotblasted on Monday.
Still need brake levers, rear mud guard, and rear spoke protector, phewww!

Mk1 handlebars are slightly wider and the seat has and extra rubber block on the underside (i think it was for support)
